Parents ‘forgot toddler in park and didn’t realize until 14 hours later’

A mother and father left their toddler daughter behind at a park – then failed to realize what they’d done for 14 hours, police say.

This little girl was abandoned by her parents at a Florida park Friday, with the mother and father then waiting 14 hours to call authorities to try and track her down

Jolana Alexandre, 27, and her husband Makenson Alexandre, 34, were arrested Saturday after the little girl, believed to be about two, was found wandering around alone in Haverhill Park, West Palm Beach, Florida. Another visitor to the park spotted the youngster wandering around on her own, and dialed 911.

Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the call tried to find the child’s parents, but were unable to. They checked with 911 dispatchers, and were told that no-one had reported the toddler missing, Local10 reported.

Then, over 14 hours later, one of the Alexandres got in touch to say she was missing, and ask to claim her back. The couple claimed that they did not realize they had left the girl in the park, but did not offer an explanation as to why, or the reason they’d waited so long to track her down.
