Operatives of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its North West-Zonal
office in Kano State, have commenced interrogation of a former governor
of Zamfara State, Mamuda Shinkafi, alongside other top politicians from
the state, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered yesterday.
According to top
EFCC sources familiar with the ongoing investigation, operatives
yesterday questioned Shinkafi and Hassan Muhammed Nasiha, a former
senator and state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the
state on how N25 billion allegedly diverted by former Petroleum
Minister, Deizani Madueke, through Fidelity Bank Plc. was disbursed.
Daily Trust on
Sunday learnt that in his statement of admission to the investigators
last week, Bashir Yuguda a former Finance Minister (State), under former
President Goodluck Jonathan, alleged that the former governor, Mamuda
Shinkafi, got N15 million and Hassan Muhammed Nasiha, former senator and
state PDP chairman and his executives, benefitted from the money.
The EFCC source
said: "In his statement, Shinkafi alleged that he was told about the
money and was promised release of the money to him at an 'appropriate'
time, while on his part, Nasiha claimed that, he only benefitted N2
million contrary to claims made by Yuguda that he got N5 million. He
refunded the said money to EFCC. The two are currently under detention."
The EFCC source
said operatives expect to unravel more as the former governor was still
making more statements at the time of filing this report.
