A
Pennsylvania police officer has been charged after shocking video
emerged of him appearing to punch a woman during a traffic stop.
Officer
Jesus Santiago-DeJesus pulled over Marcelina Cintron-Garcia in Reading
on April 5 after he falsely accused her of failing to use a signal to
turn right.
He is then accused of hitting the woman and smashing her cell phone after she and a passenger tried to record him
Footage, obtained by Fox 34,
from a house near where the incident unfolded had surveillance cameras
and showed Cintron-Garcia using her turn signal correctly.

smashing her cell phone after she and a passenger tried to record him
He told Cintron-Garcia and her passenger, Joel Rodriguez, to get out of the car and sit by the curb.
Santiago-Dejesus then called for backup and told them to stop recording him. Cintron-Garcia refused, so Santiago-Dejesus tried to take her phone away from her. He then punches her while a supporting cop handcuffs Rodriguez on the ground.
Officials said this is not the first time Santiago-DeJesus has been involved in an altercation like this.
Berks
County District Attorney John Adams said at a press conference on
Thursday: 'This interaction between police and citizen was escalated by
the police behavior. In policing we need to de-escalate confrontations.'
He
went on to say that the officer obviously didn't want the interaction
recorded and the false report jeopardizes the police's image.Cintron-Garcia and Rodriguez were charged with numerous crimes including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Santiago-DeJesus' attorney, Allan Sodomsky, told ABC News his client turned himself in on Thursday for booking.
