Tragedy struck on Wednesday in Benin
when a teenager simply identified as Ikponmwosa who embarked on a
fishing expediction in company of his freinds reportedly drawn in a
stagnant pool of water and died.
The 15-year-old male student was legedly
got drawn, while attempting to catch a some cat fish from a still water
located in Iyoba Street, Uselu in Benin City after he returned home
from school where he was told to go home because of the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC) declared strike in response to the increase in pump price
of petrol by the federal government.
It was gathered that the heightened
tension at the scene forced his friends who accompanied him on the
voyage to flee and alert his parents.
The distraught mother of the diseased,
Mrs. Maureen Igiebor, said this (Wednesday) morning. He (Ikponmosa) was
already prepared for school and on getting there, was told go home
alongside his colleagues.
She said her son was already dead before a Samaritan came for his rescue.
“He ran home and removed his school uniform. Consequently, a little boy came telling me that my son, Ikponmwosa whom they went together to hunt for cat fish got drawn.

According to her, “the boy told me that he got drawn while hunting for cat fish from the swamp”.
A sister of the the victim, Miss Omosigho who wept profusely, said: “One little boy just came and said my brother got drawn at Iyoba swamp that he is dead.
