Boy, 2, missing at Disney World after being dragged into water by alligator
Authorities are searching for a child who was dragged into the water by an alligator near a Disney resort in Florida.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rose Silva said the two-year-old child was dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon near the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando.
Police are continuing to search the waters.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said the boy was on holiday with his family from Nebraska.
He said: ‘The father entered the water and tried to grab the child but he was not successful in doing so. I’m told that at some point, the mother also entered the water.’
The mother also tried to rescue the boy and a nearby lifeguard was told of the attack, Demings said.
Mr Demings said more than 50 law enforcement personnel are searching the Seven Seas Lagoon for the boy and will keep looking.
Wildlife and marine officials have also been drafted into the search, which will run into the night. ‘We are putting every effort forward,’ said Chad Weber, an officer of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
He added there have been no other recent reports of similar alligator attacks at the lake.
