The Edo State chapter of the Peoples
Democratic Party has said that the party’s nomination and expression of
interest form for the September 10 governorship election in the state
will be sold for N16m each.
The Edo State Publicity Secretary of the
party, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, who disclosed this to our correspondent on
Wednesday, explained that while the expression of interest and
nomination form would be sold for N11m each, N5m would cover
administrative charges.
He noted that the party’s aspirants were expected to purchase the forms from the PDP state secretariat as from Wednesday.
“The cost of the nomination form is N11m while N5m is for administrative charges,” Nehikhare said on the telephone.
Although the opposition party has yet to
disclose the official date for its governorship primary, four aspirants
have so far indicated their interest in the election.
They include a former Secretary to the
State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; a former commissioner with
the Niger Delta Development Commission, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen; the
Director General of the PDP Governors Forum, Osaro Onaiwu; and Chief
Solomon Edebiri.
It was, however, learnt that some of the
aspirants had expressed their displeasure over the cost of the form,
which they described as not only expensive but an alleged plot to
present a consensus candidate.
But Nehikhare said that the leadership of the party in the state had not received any complaint over the forms.
