A roller coaster has crashed onto a children’s ride at a theme park this afternoon.
Several children have been injured after the crash earlier today at M&D’s theme park in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.
The ride, called the Tsunami, is believed to have fallen 30ft to the ground with eight to 10 people on board and landed on top of a children’s ride this morning.
Witness Tegan Low, 11, told the Record: ‘It just collapsed – all you saw was it fall. All these people were trapped under it. It landed on these motorbikes for toddlers, I don’t know if there were any on them at the time.
People nearby rushed to help those who were trapped and fire and ambulance services are at the scene.
It is believed that at least one person is still stuck under the children’s ride and the theme park has now been evacuated.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: ‘We can confirm we are currently working with other emergency services to ascertain the full extent of the situation.
‘We can confirm there are injured parties – approximately seven people.’
It is believed to be the eighth incident at the park in the last five years.
A previous incident on the Tsunami was described by the Health and Safety Executive as ‘a dangerous occurrence’.
Nine people had to be rescued from the ride after they became trapped for eight hours.
