Yunusa’s Hope Dashed as Judge Fails to Sit: Ese

The hope of a review of Yunusa Dahiru’s bail conditions to give him temporary relief was thwarted on Thursday following the absence of Justice Aliya Nganjiwa of the Federal Court in Yenagoa.

Dahiru, accused of criminal abduction, illicit sex, sexual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor, Miss Ese Oruru, was granted bail by the court over two months ago, but has not been able to perfect the strict conditions.

Apart from a N3 million surety, the court had ruled that a traditional title holder and a level 12 civil servant from the Bayelsa axis must sign on the young man’s behalf.

Justice Nganjiwa had adjourned the matter to June 2 for hearing of the substantive suit, having granted the prosecution’s request to take the evidence of Oruru in private.

Journalists and child rights activists who had gathered in the courtroom as early as 9am were disappointed to learn that the court would not be sitting.

Kayode Olaosebekan, counsel to Dahiru, said he was not aware that the court would not sit until he got to the court premises.
