City workers form human chain to protect cyclist injured at notorious junction

A cyclist is recovering after he was knocked down at a notorious junction where a group of City workers formed a human chain to protect him.

The man in his 40s was hit at a notorious junction in Bank at rush hour yesterday evening. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the collision at 6pm.

People said that passers-by stood in the road to block traffic while he was being treated.
They said that he was wearing a helmet and full cycling gear, according to the Standard.
A witness told the paper: ‘I looked around and saw the cyclist flying off his bike out of the corner of my eye. There was this gasp from the crowd then silence.

The complicated junction where the collision happened

‘His eyes were closed and he was bleeding from his mouth, just lying on the road. When he did open his eyes he was completely out of it.
‘People were standing in the road to protect his body from other cars. We were too scared to move him. ‘One lady held his hand the whole time and was asking him loads of questions to keep him conscious but he couldn’t respond.’
The driver is helping police with their inquiries.
