Man armed with knife and flammable liquid attacks passengers on Swiss train
A man armed with a knife and flammable liquid has attacked passengers on a train in Switzerland injuring six people.
According to reports, the man used ‘fire and a knife’ to attack those on board the train, with some suggestions he ignited a flammable liquid before launching the assault.
The attack took place as the train passed through Salez-Sennwald Station with reports saying the carriage was left covered with blood with many badly injured.
Police say they are yet to determine a motive for the attack and have not confirmed any terrorist connection.
Those taken to hospital are being treated for stab wounds and burns, say reports. Among the injured is believed to be a child of six.
The suspected attacker, a 27-year-old Swiss man, has also been taken to hospital
It is thought that while only six were injured, there were dozens of passengers on board at the time.
As well as the six-year-old, a 17-year-old boy and girl, two women aged 34 and 43 and a 50-year-old man were hurt.
Some of the injured are said to be in a serious condition.
Firefighters and three police helicopters were called to the scene and a major police investigation is underway.
The attack occurred at 2.20pm between the towns of Buchs and Sennwald.
The prosecutor has opened an investigation.
The incident comes just one month after an Afghan asylum seeker carrying an axe boarded a train in Bavaria, injuring four people.
