Pictured: Three children and mum killed in A34 horror pile-up
The mum and two children who died in a horrific pile up on the A34 on Wednesday evening, along with her partner’s child, have been pictured for the first time.
Tracy Houghton, 45, was killed alongside her two sons, Ethan, 13 and 11-year-old Josh and her partner’s 11-year-old daughter Amy Goldsmith as they made their way home to Dunstable from a camping trip.
Tracy’s mum Jo Smith told how the family were devastated by the crash.
She told The Sun: ‘Tracy’s partner Mark and his son Jake were in a different car, they were following my daughter.
‘They had to take two cars. They were behind my daughter’s car. She was behind was behind the lorry and the car got shunted underneath the lorry.
‘Mark is in bits. Mark was taken to hospital with a broken rib and whiplash. His son Jake was also released with minor injuries.’
She earlier wrote on Facebook: ‘I’m so sad to say I am the mother & grandmother to all involved in this terrible accident.
‘Half my family wiped out in one go.’
Tracy’s partner Mark Goldsmith was travelling in the car behind with his son, 13, when Ms Houghton’s Vauxhall Corsa collided with a lorry at around 5pm.
The family were travelling in convoy back from a camping trip in the South West.
Two other cars and four lorries were also involved in the crash.
A 30-year-old man from Andover, Hampshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until October 5.
Dozens of emergency service workers were dispatched to the scene between East and West Ilsley Junctions. including specialist medics from the hazardous response unit.
One man injured in the collision was flown by air ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
A man and a teenage boy were taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital by land ambulance with minor injuries and have since been discharged.
A further nine people sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
